Representation with Redux Pictures

We Animals now has a second home! I'm thrilled to be represented by the New York City photo agency Redux Pictures. I look forward to our collaborative efforts on multimedia projects, photography and delivering We Animals to an international audience.

Sea Shepherd 2009/2010

My first mission as a Sea Shepherd photographer starts this December 1st, when I head out to meet the rest of the crew abroad. Or rather, aboard :) I don't know that I'll be able to send back many reports while at sea in the Antarctic, but definitely check back here in February for photos and stories about our efforts to stop the illegal whale hunt. Regular updates and photos about our work will be posted at open link and in news articles worldwide.

Thank you to Catherine Hawthorn for her recent 12x12 exhibit and gala night, which raised funds for Ape Action Africa. I had donated 4 images to the show; 3 of them sold on opening night!

Broiler Chickens Being Loaded for Transport, Spain

Chickens are loaded and packed into crates at night; the darkness immobilizes them and makes the workers' task easier and faster. This facility can hold upwards of 20,000 broiler chickens (those raised for meat, as opposed to those raised to produce eggs). The workers handle the chickens aggressively, picking up four at a time by their legs and then throwing them into crates, in an effort to meet unrealistic time demands. The conditions are abysmal for the animals as well as the workers. I met recent immigrants from Turkey, India and Hungary who pleaded with me to help find them work in Canada. None of the men wanted to be doing this job.
Hundreds of these chickens will die before reaching the slaughterhouse due to injuries sustained from the brutal treatment, as well as from fear-induced heart attacks.
