January 3rd, 2010 Rescuing a Family From Certain Death
The spanish abolitionist animal rights group Igualdad Animal
[ open link / open link] has released news about the open rescue of a sheep and her two lambs which took place this past September. I was there to document the rescue and help see the animals to their new home, far away from the horrors of the farm life in which they lived. The Catalonian farm in question exploits sheep for their wool, flesh and milk. Please check out the full story here:

Igualdad Animal is an incredibly dedicated and hard-working group of individuals, all of whom repeatedly put their health and safety at risk in order to further the cause of animal liberation. |
November 26th, 2009 Harry the Pig is this week's Farm Sanctuary poster boy!
Farm Sanctuary now has a "Photo of the Week".
This is Harry, one of the funniest and most charming pigs I have ever met. He hails from Canada and arrived at the Farm last year with his mother, Hazel.

November 25th, 2009 Canadian Geographic interview about We Animals
I shot a story recently for Canadian Geographic magazine, about conservation efforts to save Canada's Black-Footed ferret. The story comes out in this year's December issue. As an aside to the story they inteviewed me about my work, which can be seen at open link |
November 25th, 2009 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair 2009
Another year has come and gone, and unfettered animal cruelty has once again been cheered and celebrated at Toronto's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair ( open link). I am always surprised that this yearly event doesn't draw more criticism; from the lies to school kids in the education hall about factory farming, to the bull and horse brutality of the rodeo. Few are asking the right questions about how meat really reaches our plates, and, judging by the full stadium at the rodeo, fewer still are questioning the ethics of animals used for our entertainment. |
November 24th, 2009 Pig Farm Investigations in Sweden
Sweden's Animal Rights Alliance has produced a fantastic short documentary about their factory farm investigations over the last 2 years. They've just made the investigations public, and the documentary can be seen here: open link
Their group is composed of tireless activists, with whom I had the honour of working alongside, albeit briefly, this past September. Some of the photos I shot during this time appear in their documentary. | |
