April 11th, 2010 Jane Goodall: Fifty years of work and no sign of stopping her!
One of the great things about being a volunteer photographer for the Jane Goodall Institute is that I get to see Jane semi-regularly! This year she celebrates fifty years of work at Gombe Stream National Park, where she started her research as a 21-year old in the deep forests of then-Tanganyika. Sigh... it's the stuff my dreams are made of...
It's always wonderful hearing her speak, seeing her in action as she motivates and inspires the hundreds in her audience.
I encourage everyone to check out her many outreach progams through the Jane Goodall Insitute and the international Roots and Shoots programs. open link |
April 8th, 2010 No Voice Unheard publishes a gorgeous book about rescued farmed animals
An amazing book published by a wonderful group of hard working people. Check it out, it's a beauty! It tells the stories of many animals rescued from the farming industry, and focus on the sanctuaries that work to protect and rehome them as well. Ok and it has a few of my photos too.
The title reflects the number of animals a vegan saves every year by abstaining from eating animals and animal products.

April 3rd, 2010 Sanctuary magazine features my story about Farm Sanctuary Shelter Director Susie Coston
I didn't receive my copy of this past winter's Sanctuary, Farm Sanctuary's quarterly magazine until now, seemingly due to some sketchy US border mail hold-ups. I was so excited to finally see my photo story about shelter director Susie Coston within it's pages! Thanks, FS folks, for running this, and I can't wait to visit again in May.

April 3rd, 2010 Lots of good news for We Animals
There's a lot going on for the We Animals project lately. Australia's Bohdan Warchomij's new online photo magazine is soon ready to be launched, and features photos and an interview about my experience working in the Antarctic with Sea Shepherd this past winter. I'm working with a Japanese environmental magazine, Sotokoto, putting together a big photo essay about Farm Sanctuary. They are also featuring my Sea Shepherd photography in an astounding 18-page article! The amazing LIVE restaurant at Spadina and Dupont in Toronto had decorated their walls with photos from We Animals for the month of April. I encourage you to visit their restaurant and devour their creative and healthy vegan dishes. While working at trying to get my photos out there, I've also started a new series of photos about puppy mills in Canada. So, more travelling for that story over the coming months. On a separate note, if you have a bit of extra time and space this spring, please consider fostering an animal. Here in Toronto, the Humane Society is closing its doors on April 12th for up to two months. Foster families are crucial; animals who do not find temporary foster homes during this time have a high chance of being euthanized. Spring is also kitten season and all the shelters become crowded with nursing mothers, or just their kittens. A bit of your time and compassion can go a very long way over the next few months, so please do consider being a foster parent! | |
